Over the past few months, I’ve been intentionally developing a new skill at my gym called Rope Flow. I’d experimented with it on and off for a couple of years, but I’d never fully committed to mastering it or unlocking its full potential.
If you’re unfamiliar, Rope Flow involves using a special weighted rope to create continuous, rotational patterns around the body. This style of movement delivers powerful benefits—improved mobility, coordination, and functional strength through fluid, full-range motion. And just as important…it’s fun.
A few months ago, I made a clear commitment: I wanted to become proficient enough that I could take my rope anywhere and always have a simple, effective way to train—no matter where I was. To do that, I joined my gym’s Rope Flow class and began working with Coach CJ.
CJ teaches technique, gives precise feedback, and—most importantly—helps us see blind spots. Often, those blind spots are the very places where we’re literally getting in our own way.
That idea of “getting in your own way” is built directly into Rope Flow. The practice has an immediate feedback loop. When my timing is off or my positioning is wrong, the rope lets me know—by hitting my leg, my arm, or, unfortunately at times, my head. Yes, it hurts sometimes. But most meaningful feedback does. The lesson is always clear: I’m swinging unevenly, my mechanics are off, or there’s a mobility limitation I need to address.
And because I’m learning in a class, I’m not doing it alone. There’s community. We watch each other struggle and improve. We learn from people who are a few steps ahead of us. My experience—both here and everywhere else in life—is that learning accelerates exponentially when we pursue growth together.
That’s where this journey began to feel deeply familiar.
As a Founder and CEO of an eight-figure business for 15 years, I often lacked the very things my Rope Flow practice now provides. I didn’t have a CJ—someone whose role was to observe my blind spots and give me honest feedback. Like many Founder/CEOs, I was “the boss,” which made my team hesitant to tell me the truth. As a result, I unknowingly got in my own way—reinforcing habits that didn’t serve me, my team, or our customers.
The CEO seat is also a lonely one. It’s easy to believe every problem is yours to solve, that there’s never enough time to do the most important work, and that it’s faster to do things yourself than to delegate. And that list goes on.
Today, in my role as an executive coach, I get to be the CJ for Founders, CEOs, executives, and high-performing leaders. I know what you’re facing because I’ve lived it. I help leaders see what they can’t see, get out of their own way, and step into the life and leadership they’ve only imagined.
Sometimes, that means I’m the “rope”—providing direct, honest feedback as a fierce advocate for your growth, saying what no one else will. And just as importantly, I make sure you don’t walk the journey alone. I walk alongside you as a trusted advisor, helping you achieve more with less effort—and with greater satisfaction.
As we begin a new year, ask yourself: What have I committed to that will help me grow as both a leader and a person? Growth doesn’t happen by accident—it happens when we put ourselves in environments that provide feedback, accountability, and support.
If you’re serious about becoming the kind of leader who gets out of their own way and operates with clarity, energy, and purpose, don’t do it alone. Whether you work with me or another coach, invest in your growth and choose a trusted advisor who will challenge you, tell you the truth, and walk with you through the process.
If you’re ready to explore what that could look like, I invite you to book an initial call.
